Retired American boxer and former WBU Champion Micky Ward has an estimated net worth of $500 thousand. He earned his net worth as an accomplished boxer. Born on October 4, 1965 in Lowell, Massachusetts, he is a three-time New England Golden Gloves Championships holder. He turned pro in 1985 and won his first fourteen flights in the Junior Welterweight Division. However, in the early 90s, he began to have problems so he took a hiatus from boxing.
During his time away from sport, Ward dealt with his seriously damaged right hand. He underwent a multiple surgeries that transferred bone from his pelvis to his damaged hand to help strengthened his weakened hand. His half-brother Dicky Ecklund, a former boxer, convinced him to return to boxing.
Sometimes nicknamed “Irish Micky Ward”, he launched a comeback in 1997 and won his first nine fights. He became the WBU Intercontinental Light Welterweight Champion. Ward’s comeback story and rise to fame was made into a 2010 feature film, The Fighter, starring Mark Wahlbergwhere he was nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Actor. Wahlberg has confirmed to Spike TV that The Fighter 2 is in works. The film will focus on the legendary fight trilogy between Ward and Arturo Gatti. He was featured on the cover of the album The Warrior’s Code and the subject of the title song by the Dropkick Murphys. The live version was played in the movie The Fighter. He and Gatti were featured on the cover of the game Fight Night Round 3 for PS2 and Xbox versions only. His life and boxing career was written in the book Irish Thunder: The Hard Life and Times of Micky Ward by Bob Halloran in 2008.
