Madonna is an American singer-songwriter with an estimated net worth of $650 million. She is 5’5″ and weighs 120 pounds. The third of six children, Madonna Louise Ciccone was born on August 16, 1958 in Bay City, Michigan. She was a high achiever from a young age, graduating high school early with a 4.0 GPA and earning a full scholarship to the University of Michigan. After studying dance at the famed Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, Madonna dropped out of college to pursue a career in entertainment and relocated to New York City. By 1982, she had performed with several bands and began a solo career scoring a dance hit with her first single “Everybody.”
Madonna released her debut self-titled album Madonna in 1983, which launched the singer to overnight fame with chart-topping singles “Borderline,” “Lucky Star” and “Holiday.” The singer’s second album Like a Virgin followed in 1985 to even bigger commercial success and also solidified the singer as a fashion trendsetter as teenage girls around the globe mimicked her style. Considered a cultural icon and the “Queen of Pop,” Madonna is also an established businesswoman founding successful entertainment company Maverick, as well as a number of other endeavors including fashion line Material Girl and penning a notable series of children’s books. She is an active philanthropist supporting several worthy causes such as Children of Peace, Millennium Promise and Raising Malawi, the non-profit organization that she founded in 2006 which provides relief for children in Africa. Madonna has been married twice, to actor Sean Penn from 1985 to 1989 and English director Guy Ritchie from 2000 to 2008. She has four children daughter Lourdes with ex-boyfriend Carlos Leon, son Rocco from her marriage to Ritchie and daughter Mercy and son David who were adopted from Malawi.
