John Mayer is an American singer-songwriter and producer. He is 6’3″ and weighs 175 pounds. The middle of three sons, John Clayton Mayer was born on October 16, 1977 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. At age thirteen, John became fascinated with the guitar and with blues music, and by fifteen was performing at several local blues bars and clubs. After a short stint at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, John began to pursue a career in music and in 1998 released independent label EP Inside Wants Out. Although he didn’t reach commercial success with the release, John gained popularity touring locally to promote the eight-song EP.
In 2002, John launched to stardom with the release of his debut full-length album Room for Squares, which garnered the singer a Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. The album sold over 4 million copies and generated several radio hits including “Your Body is a Wonderland” and “Why Georgia.” His third album Continuum (2006) was another critical and commercial success earning him two more Grammy wins and the hit single “Waiting on the World to Change.” Between 2009 and 2013, John released three more successful albums including Battle Studies (2009) and Born and Raised (2012), as well as garnered a number of honors including six more Grammy Awards.
After recovering from a 2012 vocal cord surgery, the singer released sixth album Paradise Valley in 2013, which spawned hit duet “Who You Love.” Heavily involved in activism, John supports a number of charitable organizations including Live Earth and the Back to You Fund, which he founded in 2002 to focus on fundraising for health care, education and the arts. The singer has had a series of high-profile romances over the years including Jennifer Love-Hewitt, Minka Kelly, Jessica Simpson, Taylor Swift and Jennifer Aniston. He has been dating fellow singer Katy Perry since 2012. John has never been married and has no kids.
