Scott also developed a passion for music and began singing jazz and soul tunes.

Her first album featured songs like ”A Long Walk” and “Gettin’ in the Way.” She received massive success from her first album, earning three Grammy nominations. It also made the Top 20 on the Billboard albums chart.

Jill Scott has gone on to release three more studio albums: Beautifully Human: Words and Sounds Vol.2 (2004), The Real Thing: Words and Sounds Vol. 3 (2007), The Light of the Sun (2011). In 2005 Jill Scott won a Grammy award for Best Urban/Alternative R&B Performance for “Cross My Mind”. 2007 was a big year for Scott, along with the release of her third album, she won three Grammy awards.

Jill Scott is also an accomplished actress. She has starred in commercially successful films such as Why Did I Get Married? (2007), Why Did I Get Married Too? (2010), Steel Magnolias (2012), and Baggage Claim (2013).

Jill Scott is currently working on her fifth studio album which will include lullabies. The idea came to her after giving birth to her first son in 2009.
