Wiz Khalifa is an American Rap Artist.
Cameron Jibril Thmaz AKA Wiz Khalifa was born on September 8, 1987 in Minot, North Dakota and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Wiz began rapping as a toddler and by the time he was a teen had adopted the stage name Wiz Khalifa meaning successor and wisdom in Arabic. After graduating high school in 2005, he released a number of successful mixtapes including Deal or No Deal, which earned the young rapper the title of “artist to watch” by Rolling Stone and acquired his loyal fan base known as the “Taylor Gang,” named after his love for Chuck Taylor Converse.
In 2010, Wiz released much anticipated mixtape Kush & Orange Juice, which was a massive internet hit. After signing a new deal with Atlantic Records, he embarked on a sold out national tour and was named Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010 by MTV. The rapper’s biggest mainstream success came in 2011, with the release of his new single “Black and Yellow,” which become an instant radio hit and topped the Billboard Hot 100 charts. His first studio album Rolling Papers (2011) garnered critical and commercial success debuting at number two and earning the rapper a BET Award for Best New Artist. His sophomore album O.N.I.F.C followed in 2012 to similar success with two hit singles including platinum-selling “Work Hard, Play Hard.”
After dating for two years, Wiz married model Amber Rose in 2013 and the couple has one son together. The rapper has publicly stated his daily use and support of marijuana, citing that he spends over $10,000 a month on his smoking habit and made headlines in 2010 when he was arrested for marijuana possession and trafficking. Already established as one of hip hop’s hottest artists, Wiz is currently working on his third studio album entitled Blaac Holywood, which is slated to be released in 2014.
