As a professional hockey player, he spent 17 seasons (1984-2007) with the Pittsburgh Penguins. After acquiring the Penguins in 1999, he became the team’s chairman and principal owner.
Under his management, he has led the team to Stanley Cups twice, in 1991 and 1992. Seven years later, the team had its third cup. He is considered to be the only person who have won the cup both as an owner and player.
