Tameka Cottle was born on July 14, 1975 in College Park, Georgia. While she was attending Tri-Cities Performing Arts High School, Cottle joined the all-female R&B quartet Xscape. The group got discovered by producer Jermaine Dupri while performing at a Martin Luther King, Jr. birthday celebration. Dupri immediately signed the quartet to his emerging record label, So So Def Recordings.
Tamkea Cottle contributed to the group’s three albums: Hummin’ Comin’ at ‘Cha(1993), Off the Hook (1995), and Traces of My Lipstick (1998). She sang lead vocals to Xscape’s hit singles: ”Understanding”, “Do You Want To?”, “All I Need”, “Love’s a Funny Thing”, and “Am I Dreamin’”. Cottle has earned two Soul Train awards as a member of Xscape. She also earned a Grammy Award for Best R&B Song for co-writing “No Scrubs” with Xscape bandmate Kandi Burruss. In 1998, Xscape disbanded after the release of their third album.
After being a R&B star Cottle became a reality star. She co-starred with Toya Wright on the BET series Tony and Toya. The series debuted on BET in June 2009.
In 2010 Tameka Cottle and rapper T.I. Harris got married in Miami Beach, Florida. In December 2011 VH1 launched T.I. and Tiny: The Family Hustle. The reality series documents Tameka’s blended family. She has two sons with T.I.: Clifford “King” Harris II and Major Philant Harris. Tameka has three stepchildren through her marriage: Messiah Ya’Majesty Harris, Domani Uriah Harris, and Deyjah Imani Harris. She has a daughter named Zonnique Pullins from a previous relationship.
