Net Worth: $3 Million
Known as The Say Hey Kid, Willie Mays is a retired professional baseball player with an estimated net worth of $3 million as of 2012.
Mays spent most of his baseball career with the San Francisco Giants and New York Giants. He finished his career with the New York Mets. From 1951 through 1957, Mays played with the New York Giants. Then from 1958 through 1972, he played with the San Francisco Giants. In May 1972, Willie Mays was traded to the New York Mets in exchange for the pitcher Charlie Williams and cash consideration. Mays only agreed to the deal because during that time, the San Francisco Giants franchise was losing a great deal of money and they cannot guarantee income for Mays after the latter’s retirement. Also, Mays was offered with a coaching position with Mets after his retirement.
He has won two MVP awards and has participated in 24 All Star Games. In 1979, Mays was inducted into Baseball Hall of Fame on his first year of eligibility. In 1999, he was hailed by the Sporting News as second in the list of 100 Greatest Baseball Players. This made him the highest ranking living player today.
