During his high school years, Jabbar led the Power Memorial Academy into three championships. In college, he played for the University of California Los Angeles Bruins. In 1969, he was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks as its first overall pick in the 1969 NBA Draft. He played with the franchise until 1975 when he was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers together with Walt Wesley. He played with the Lakers until 1989.
