He claims that his passion for music was triggered by his brothers, James and Bernard. While he was still studying in college, he was invited to become a part of Mickey Ratt, the group which became a highly successful band in the 1980′s. He replaced Jake E. Lee. He is noted to be the co-writer of some of the band’s hit songs which include “Lay It Down”, “Way Cool Jr.”, “Dance”, and “Round and Round”.

When Ratt disbanded, he became a part of Dokken. Eventually, he joined Whitesnake. He then released Surf’s Up!. A year later, Crazy Enough To Sing To You was released. Ratt eventually reunited, which led to the release of a self-titled album, and another album titled Collage.
