Hideki Matsui was born on June 12, 1974 in Neagari, Ishikawa, Japan. After graduating from the Seiryo High School, he was drafted as a first round pick  by the Yomiuri Giants at the Nippon Professional Baseball of Japan. He spent eight seasons with the Yomiuri Giants. From 2003 to 2009, he played in the Major League Baseball for the New York Yankees. As free agent, Matsui had relatively short stints with the Oakland Athletics, Tampa Bay Rays, and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Hideki Matsui has been successful both in Nippon Professional Baseball League, and in Major League Baseball. In Japan, he was a three-time recipient of the Central League Most Valuable Player Award. In the US, he also won the World Series Most Valuable Player Award.

From 1994 to 2002, he has been named as All Star in the NPB. He was also a three-time series champion in Japan. In the Major League Baseball, he won as the World Series champion in 2009. On the same season, he was named as the World Series MVP.
