Net Worth: $15 Million
Dale Murphy is a former outfielder and first baseman who has an estimated net worth of $15 million. He has earned his wealth with his 18 years of playing in the Major League Baseball (MLB) with three different teams.
Dale Bryan Murphy was born on March 12, 1956 in Portland, Oregon. He began his professional career when he was drafted by the Atlanta Braves as the fifth overall pick in the 1974 draft. He played a nineteen game stint catching with the Braves two years later. He first played as the first baseman but moved to the outfield in 1980. His switching of positions led to a decade of highly productive play in the National League. He used to play in the left but shifted to the centerfield which brought him his greatest success.
Murphy was named an All-Star MVP outfielder in 1982 and has appeared in each of the team’s 162 games. In the same year, he won his first of five consecutive Gold Gloves and his first MVP Award by a Brave player since Hank Aaron in 1957. He also won his first of the four consecutive National League’s Silver Slugger Award.
Between 1982 and 1986, Dale has appeared in the All-Star Game and is place in the top ten in MVP voting. However, it came to a point when his game started a harsh downward slide. He was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies in 1990 after fifteen seasons. He played three unsuccessful seasons with the Phillies and moved to the Colorado Rockies in 1993. He ended his career after a season with the team.
Upon retirement, he ventured into politics and considered running for Utah governor in 2004 with the aim to support several charities and non-profit organizations. He is set to work as a first base coach for the USA National Team in the 2013 World Baseball Classic.
